World Breastfeeding Week - Aug 1st - 7th
Celebrated August 1st to 7th World Breastfeeding Week was created in 1992 to commemorate the Innocenti Declaration. The Declaration, by the WHO and UNICEF, noted the nutritional, health and bonding benefits of breastfeeding for both the mother and the child. The benefits of breastfeeding are manifold, including a decrease in the instance and severity of infectious disease in babies and reducing the risk of breast and ovarian cancer for mothers.
World Breastfeeding Week, including the theme, is coordinated by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA). The week is designed to raise awareness and support for breastfeeding worldwide. The theme for 2010 is “Breastfeeding – Just Ten Steps! The Baby – Friendly Way”.
At Sangath we believe in the importance and crucial effects that breastfeeding a child can have and we strongly advocate it. For more details click here.
