The Early Intervention Outreach project was an attempt to promote the growth and development of high-risk babies born in Goa. It was funded by Child Relief and You (CRY), Mumbai and was implemented from 1999-2001.

The highlights of the program included the establishment of an Early Intervention Clinic at the Dept. of Pediatrics, Goa Medical College, Goa, a teaching hospital.

Training programs were conducted for grassroot health workers (anganwadi workers, auxiliary nurse midwives and health educators) and community women's groups relating to child growth, development and behavior.

"The Early Years Last Forever" a practical manual for Anganwadi workers has been published. It covers growth and development in the first 2 years, simple developmental assessment, home stimulation program, communication skills, talking to parents about nutrition and common behaviour problems in the first 2 years of life. Other information resources such as handouts, slides, flashcards and other training materials have been prepared.
